As with most retail businesses the Covid-19 pandemic threw us into a period of enormous challenges. Over the years and over 3 generations, Flowers by Nattrass has grown into a thriving florist business that concentrates on delivering gift bouquets, providing floral tributes for funerals and designing flowers for hundreds of weddings and events. In March this year, due to the lockdown, we lost all of our wedding and event business literally overnight, a staple that kept us running and employing staff over the busy summer months.

It was time for a rethink...

After much soul searching and number crunching we decided to close our retail shop in Darlington and move back to our premises at Hurworth where the business was born 63 years ago. We will continue doing all that we did before with a concentration on on-line and telephone orders but still allowing customers to visit us at Hurworth to order and collect flowers. Just ring our bell at the gate and we will come and help!

Flowers By Nattrass has ambitious ideas for the Hurworth site. We have plans to move an existing office and change the building to a workshop/studio utilising existing cool store facilities and provide new storage facilities. Our sister company Strelitzia Software, that provides management software to florists will have a new office space on the same site. When we open our gates to clients we will have ample parking, lots of outdoor space for social distancing and taking orders, an area dedicated to taking wedding and funeral orders and a brand new work space for our florists. 

Through lockdown and afterwards we are kept busy delivering our gorgeous gift bouquets for birthdays, anniversaries, thank-you or simply “hope you are ok” or “just to cheer you up”. We have also continued helping bereaved families choose appropriate funeral tributes at a very difficult time.
