When a florist’s daughter gets married
Surrounded by family and friends on July 16th 2022 our eldest daughter Katie, marries Tom. The weather was perfect for a humanist ceremony in the field behind our house followed by a marquee reception in the garden.
The work began days before choosing the flowers, it’s hard to decide when you have massive choice and want to use them all! Thanks to Vianen flower wholesalers in Holland for providing fabulous top quality blooms, a family run company who we have traded with for years.
Katie chose flowers in shades of blue, cerise, coral and cream with lots of wild trailing foliages. Delphiniums, Dahlias, Roses, Astrantia, Scabious, Calla, Craspedia, Mint, Nigella, Grasses, Succulents, Ferns, Laurel and Eucalyptus all played a part.
We made 3 arches out of silver birch trunks to garland with flowers and filled large milk churns with flowers at the top of the aisle.
The Marquee looked spectacular with tall trees created from more birch trunks with cascading flowers and succulents and bud vases at the base. Ladders hung from the roof were decorated with trailing greenery.
The Bridal bouquet was filled with dozens of different varieties of garden type flowers with lots of trailing ferns to give a wild, garden feel and to compliment the liberty print fabric used on Katie’s dress. And so the boys didn’t feel left out we made unusual pocket buttonholes of tiny blooms to match the theme, giving a lovely textured look.
